Localization Project Management

for Opalis Software Inc.

The Opalis Integration Server provides an easy way to remove repetitive, time-consuming, manual tasks from overburdened IT staff by automating datacenter operations through an easy-to-manage user interface. While it had undertaken previous, ad hoc localization efforts with in-house staff, it chose John White and 1-for-All Marketing for a one-stop solution to deliver a new version of its product in Japanese, French, German and Spanish.

With a mixture of on-site (Toronto) and off-site work, 1-for-All provided crucial support for internationalization, localization project management, translation and linguistic QA to Opalis' development process during a critical migration to a new, XML-based architecture. This helped the Opalis Engineering and QA teams find and repair problems early enough in the project to allow for a five-language simultaneous shipment.

This type of project draws upon 1-for-All Marketing’s expertise in:

  • educating clients in internationalization and localization processes
  • assisting product management in coordinating beta-test programs with in-country partners
  • pseudo-translating resource files and performing robust internationalization QA to find not yet externalized strings
  • gracefully straddling a new and an old architecture and developing a localization model that accommodates both
  • using VMWare images in different languages for localization testbenches
  • separating and setting up guidelines between linguistic and functional QA
  • > sounding alarms in Engineering and QA as early as possible in the project
  • keeping an outsourced localization project continually visible
