Localization Project Management for Stac, Inc. (renamed to Previo; acquired by Altiris) Stac develops and markets enterprise backup and communication products for network disaster recovery and remote control. To support its worldwide sales effort, Stac engaged 1-for-All Marketing for localization of its Web site, www.stac.com, and creation of a five-language CD-ROM based on the Web site. As with most large Web sites, it is economical and effective for www.stac.com to be based on a template, or "sub-site", of English-language pages, with translated information on products, downloads, sales contacts, news, and support across these pages. This ensures integrity of the marketing message from one language to the next and boils the Web site down to a few important yet manageable pages. An icon on the home page calls the visitor's attention to the worldwide content, summarized on a top-level multi-language page. Most of the product information pages are duplicated from already localized data sheets, exploiting the "translate once, use many" axiom of international marketing. Finally, the entire site, including appropriate executable files, is burned onto a CD for convenient distribution overseas, where the cost of downloading evaluation copies of software can be prohibitively high. |
